When Search Console appears empty or broken, start with verification. Check the property dropdown at the top left to confirm you're viewing the correct property and that it shows a green checkmark. If you see "Unverified owner" or no checkmark, you haven't completed verification. For a Domain property (covers http, https, www, non-www, and subdomains), you must add a DNS TXT or CNAME record through your hosting provider or registrar; propagation can take a few minutes to an hour. For a URL-prefix property (covers only the exact protocol and subdomain you specify), you can verify via HTML file upload, meta tag, Google Analytics, or Google Tag Manager in addition to DNS. Once verified, check the date range in the Performance report. Data is delayed by two to three days, so selecting "Last 7 days" on a brand-new property or immediately after verification will show nothing. Switch to "Last 28 days" or "Last 3 months" to see if older data exists. New sites can take a week or longer to appear in Search Console after their first crawl, and low-traffic sites may show sparse data even when everything is configured correctly. A common mistake is verifying a URL-prefix property for https://example.com when your live traffic uses https://www.example.com, or vice versa. If you want both covered automatically, use a Domain property instead of two separate URL-prefix properties. Also confirm that no date-comparison filter is active and that you haven't applied a query, page, or country filter that narrows the dataset to zero rows. If the Page indexing report also shows zero indexed pages after a week, use URL Inspection on your homepage to check whether Googlebot can fetch the page and whether robots.txt or noindex tags are blocking indexing.
