Core Web Vitals are Google's official performance benchmarks that measure real user experience on your website. Since June 2021, they're confirmed ranking factors. The three metrics are Largest Contentful Paint (LCP, should be under 2.5 seconds), Interaction to Next Paint (INP, under 200ms), and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS, under 0.1). These aren't suggestions—Google uses actual Chrome user data to score your pages. LCP measures how fast your main content loads. If your hero image or text block takes 4 seconds to appear, you're losing rankings and visitors. INP replaced First Input Delay in 2024 and tracks how quickly your page responds when users click buttons or type. CLS penalizes layouts that shift around while loading, like when an ad suddenly pushes text down after you've started reading.
