Go to analytics.google.com and log in with the Google account that has access to your GA4 property. Once logged in, you'll see the property selector in the top left corner of the screen. Click it and choose your GA4 property from the list. If you only see Universal Analytics properties (those starting with "UA-"), you either need to create a new GA4 property or ask your account administrator to grant you access. To create a new GA4 property, click Admin in the bottom left, then Create Property under the Account column. Follow the setup wizard to configure your property name, time zone (use Eastern for Ottawa-based businesses), and currency (CAD for Canadian sites). You'll receive a Measurement ID starting with "G-" that you'll add to your website via Google Tag Manager or directly in your site's header. If someone else manages your analytics, ask them to add your Google account under Admin > Property Access Management. They can assign you Viewer, Analyst, Editor, or Administrator roles depending on what you need to do. Viewer is enough for most reporting needs; Editor or Admin is required to configure events or audiences. Common access issues: wrong Google account signed in (check the profile icon in the top right), no property set up yet, or you're looking at a Google Ads account instead of Analytics. The URL should be analytics.google.com/analytics/web, not ads.google.com. At Ottawa SEO, we set up GA4 for clients alongside Google Tag Manager and Search Console as the baseline tracking stack. We typically create separate properties for staging and production environments, and we always document which Google account holds the original Admin access. If you're migrating from Universal Analytics, both properties can run in parallel during the transition, accessible from the same account dropdown.
