Google Business Profile is a free tool that lets eligible businesses control how their information shows up when people search on Google Search or browse Google Maps. When someone searches for your business name or a relevant local query, Google pulls details from your profile—name, address, phone, hours, website, categories, photos, reviews—and displays them in the local panel on desktop or the local pack on mobile. The same information appears on Maps when users navigate or explore an area. You verify ownership through methods Google determines for your listing: postcard, phone, email, video, or instant verification if you're already verified in Search Console. Timing varies; postcards usually arrive in five to fourteen days, but delays happen. Once verified, you can edit attributes, add photos (JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, 720×720 recommended, 250×250 minimum, well lit and in focus), respond to reviews, and create posts. Those edits don't appear instantly; Google reviews changes and updates can take hours or days to propagate across Search and Maps. Keeping the profile accurate means logging in periodically to correct hours during holidays, update services, replace outdated photos, and respond to reviews. You don't need a fixed posting schedule; Google has never confirmed that frequent posts or photos directly improve ranking. What matters is that the information matches your real-world business and other citations across the web. Inconsistent NAP data confuses Google's algorithms and can split signals between duplicate listings. If your profile gets suspended, you can appeal through Google's tool and optionally submit matching registration, licence, tax, or utility documents within sixty minutes of opening the evidence form. Google doesn't publish suspension categories or decision timelines, so responses vary. The profile works when it reflects reality and stays synchronized with every other place your business is listed.
