Google Search Console exclusively tracks organic search performance—the unpaid clicks your site gets from Google Search results. It shows impressions, clicks, average position, and CTR for queries where your pages rank naturally. Paid search ads, whether from Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising, or any other platform, do not appear in Search Console at all. This separation is intentional. Search Console focuses on indexing, crawl errors, Core Web Vitals, structured data, and organic rankings. Google Ads has its own interface for campaign management, keyword bidding, ad copy performance, and conversion tracking. Google Analytics bridges both worlds by showing organic traffic under the "Organic Search" channel and paid traffic under "Paid Search," but Search Console remains purely organic. For a complete traffic picture, you need both tools. Search Console tells you which queries trigger your organic listings, what your average position is, and whether technical SEO issues block Google from crawling pages. Google Ads shows cost-per-click, ad impressions, Quality Score, and which keywords you're bidding on. Analytics ties revenue or conversions back to both channels. At Ottawa SEO Inc., we run Search Console for every domain in our portfolio because it's the most direct line to Google's view of your site. We use it to spot ranking drops, identify high-impression low-click opportunities, and fix indexing problems before they cost traffic. When clients also run paid campaigns, we pull Google Ads data into Analytics or Looker Studio dashboards so organic and paid sit side-by-side. That way you see the full search funnel: paid ads capturing high-intent buyers immediately, organic content building authority and catching longer-tail queries over time. If you only check one tool, make it Search Console for organic health. If you run paid ads, treat Google Ads as a separate dashboard and use Analytics to reconcile the two. Mixing them up leads to budget misallocations—thinking organic traffic is higher than it is, or blaming SEO for drops that are really paused ad spend.
